The Great Flood

In the three years since graduating optometry school I have experienced quite a few curveballs. The first one being the initial COVID lockdown and implementation of COVID procedures that overhauled the way we delivered patient care. Next came the OHIP job action last fall, which is thankfully well on the way to being resolved. We’ve also had various iterations of COIVD restrictions and recommendations to navigate. Then just when I thought things were getting back to “normal” I walked into the office to discover 3 inches of water on the floor, pouring from the ceiling on to the retinal camera. Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage, we have been forced to close the office and cancel patient appointments until we’re able to re-open.

While we’re waiting to re-open we want to make sure our patients know we’re available to answer questions, and we’re able to provide some limited services. Our optician has been working hard to sort through the back log of contact lens and glasses orders, and is contacting patients to arrange for pick up at an alternate location. We also have eyedrops and vitamins available for purchase. Staff have been busy managing the phones and email to answer any questions you may have. They have also been contacting patients to let them know we will have to postpone their appointments; these patients will have first dibs on appointments once we are able to re-open. If you are in need of urgent optometric care staff are able to direct you to the most appropriate provider.

We understand that it’s frustrating for our patients, and we appreciate your kind understanding as we get things up and running. We don’t yet have a firm timeline as to when we will be re-opening, but we can’t wait to get back to caring for all your eyecare needs. Check out our Instagram (@drsidonieward) for updates!
